October 13th, 2006 @ MTS Centre
The Moose delivered a rather flat performance in front of a sold out crowd of 8,800 fans at the MTS Centre getting down 2-0 to the visiting Philadelphia Phantoms after the first period. From that point on Winnipeg native, Rejean Beauchemin kept the score sheet clean as he stopped all 30 shots the Moose fired at him. The Philadelphia penalty killing was the main difference in the game as the Moose went 0 for 8 on the power play.

First Period
The game started off sluggish as both teams struggled to get any sustained pressure in the opposing teams end. After three minutes of play both teams had managed only one shot on net.
David Printz took a pass from behind the net from Tony Voce and walked around a few Moose players to score the first goal of the game on only the second shot on net for the Phantoms. The even-strength goal came at 4:20 of the first period. The goal broke the Moose's streak of scoring the first goal of the game in every game this season.
The Moose had their own good scoring chance when Nathan Smith fed a beautiful cross-crease pass to Tyler Bouck, but he fanned on the shot and missed a wide open net.
Joe Rullier cranked a shot off the left post as the Moose enjoyed their third power play of the opening period. However the home squad were unable to convert and soon took a penalty of their own as Tyler Bouck went off for boarding at 14:51 of the period.
The Phantoms would make them pay as Mark Cullen scored his first goal of the season for the Phantoms on the power play at 15:34. Wdde Flaherty made an incredible save on a shot from the slot but the rebound came out to Cullen and he slapped a shot that just trickled through the pads of Flaherty.
The Moose had some good chances late in the first as Mark Cullen followed up his goal with a hooking penalty, but the Moose were unable to score and the first came to an end with the visitors up by a score of 2-0.
Second Period
The second started much like the first with both teams playing a lot in the neutral zone. The best early chance of the period came as Mike Keane with some hard work down low fed a nice pass to Tyler Beechey but he just fired a shot wide of the near post.
Winnipeger Riley Cote took his second penalty of the game for the Phantoms to put the moose back on the power play. Brad Moran tired to add to his impressive point totals to start the 2006-07 season as he was left all alone at the side of the net but Rejean Beauchemin, also of Winnipeg, slid across to rob him of his eighth point of the season. The Moose had their best bit of sustained pressure in the game as they did a great job of moving the puck around on the power play but were unable to capitalize. The Moose went ahead on the shot clock for the first time in the game 12-11 by the time the penalty had expired.
Mike Brown layed a crushing hit on Jusi Timonen against opposite the player benches as the Phantoms were breaking into the moose zone.
At 9:11 of the second period Stefan Ruzicka took a five minute high-sticking major as he got his stick up on Moose forward Brad Moran cutting him.
But the Phantoms penalty kill was up to the task, although the Moose were able to generate some quality chances the Philadelphia penalty-killers were able to keep the puck out of their net.
A rather uneventful period came to an end with no change on the score board as the Moose still trailed by two goals. The final shots after two was Moose - 19 and Phantoms - 14.
Third Period
The third period started very sloppy as neither team was able to generate any quality scoring chances for the first ten minutes. The physicality picked up as both teams started to throw the body a lot more but the game lacked any rhythm as wayward passes led to missed opportunities for both teams.
Brad Moran looking to keep his point streak alive to start the season broke in on the Phantoms net when the Moose strung together some nice passing to spring him on a partial break. Moran made a nice move and fired a hard shot that went off of Beauchemin's mask, keeping his shut-out in tact.
The Moose got a power play late in the third as Tony Voce took a hooking penalty at 16:08 to give the Moose one last chance to get back in the game. The Moose trying desperately to get something going on the power play pulled Wade Flaherty to give the home team a 6-on-4 advantage. But the Moose could not beat goaltender Rejean Beauchemin and with 1:24 left in the third Phantoms forward Daniel Corso scored into the empty net to ice the victory for the visitors, their first versus the Moose.
The home squad could not get anything going after the empty-net goal and the Moose fell 3-0 in their home-opener.
