The Moose took the first powerplay of the game with almost four minutes played after Marc Methot took a hooking penalty. The Moose worked the powerplay to the pefection with a nice tic-tac-toe play as Kelman worked the puck to Jaffray at the side of the net who spotted a streaking Alex Burrows who one-timed it passed Andrew Penner.
Minutes later the Moose took a two goal lead as Burrows spotted Jaffray in the middle of the ice; Jaffray snapped a quick wrist shot passed the right pad of Penner.
Syracuse pulled goalie Andrew Penner for Mike Ayers shortly after the second Moose goal.
Mike Keane just about made it a 3-0 lead with seven minutes to play in the first as he snuck away on a partial breakaway but couldn't beat the glove of Mike Ayers.
Minutes later the Moose made it three after taking a two-man advantage. Bieksa made a pretty touch pass to Sven Butenschon who wired it passed Ayers.
Just moments later the Moose netted their fourth goal on the powerplay after a scramble in front; Craig Darby picked up the puck at the side of the net and flipped a pretty backhand pass to Ryan Bayda, who deposited it for his second of the year.
The first period expired with the score 4-0 and the shots 10-5 in favour of the Moose.
Wade Flaherty came up huge with five minutes gone in the second as he made the initial save then dove head-first across the crease to keep out the rebound.
Syracuse took a two-man advantage in the second after Mike Brown was gated for tripping and Jimmy was given two minutes for boarding. Mike Keane got down to block a big Andy Delmore point shot and the Moose were able to kill off the two minors.
The Moose took their seventh powerplay of the game at 18:39 of the second after Greg Mauldin was called for a hook on Jesse Schultz. The Moose pressed for their fourth powerplay goal of the game but couldn't do it in the second as the period expired with the score remaining 4-0 and the Moose just leading the shot count 14-13.
Jozef Balej was forced to take the first Moose powerplay of the third after a turnover in the Moose zone; Balej was forced to take a hooking penalty to prevent a clear breakaway. Shortly after the Crunch took a two man advantage for 1:18 after Skinner took a hooking penalty of his own.
Syracuse finally capitalized on the ensuing powerplay as Brett Nowak was able to tip in a Aaron Johnson point shot.
Jimmy Roy was shaken up and limped off midway through the third after a mid-ice collision with Rick Rypien.
Mike Brown had a clear breakaway with just over eight minutes to play in regulation but couldn't put it through the five hole of Mike Ayers.
Jesse Schultz netted his first goal in eight games and the fourth Moose powerplay goal of the game after he wound up wide open in front and snapped a shot to the top right corner.
Syracuse responded with a powerplay goal of their own minutes later; Joe Motzko was able to grab his own rebound and slip is passed a sprawled-out Wade Flaherty.
It was too-little too-late for the Crunch however, as the Moose held on for a 5-2 win.
