With three minutes gone in the first Rochester took a five on three advantage for 1:14 after Mojzis and Skinner were called for individual minors. With some great penalty killing from Nathan McIver and three solid stops from Maxime Ouellet, the Moose were able to kill the penalties with no harm done.
Midway through a tightly played first period the shots were tied at three.
Rochester again netted the first goal of the game with 6:08 left in the first period. On the powerplay, Rochester's Kamil Kreps made a sharp pass to Marc Mancari in front, who redirected it passed a helpless Maxime Ouelette.
With 2:39 to play in the first the action turned physical as Jeremy Swanson and Josh Green went toe to toe. Green got the majority of the shots in befre he was wrestled to the ground in a rare fight for the Moose forward.
At the end of the first period the score remained 1-0 and the Amerks were outshooting the Moose 11-3.
Manitoba had a goal disallowed early in the second period after Jimmy Roy had whacked the puck in, but the whistle had blown first.
The Moose did tie things up on the powerplay minutes later as Alex Burrows was able to jump on a rebound after a Sven Butenschon point shot and slide it passed Leighton.
Midway through the second period the shots were tied at twelve.
With 9:02 to play in the second, action heated up after Alexandre Burrows fell on the Rochester goalie. Rochester defencemen Dan Focht took exception to this and started throwing punches at Burrows. Focht was given the extra penalty as both teams were assessed penalties.
Ryan Bayda got his first Moose goal on the ensuing powerplay after a scramble in front of Michael Leighton, Bayda was able to poke it in.
As the second period expired, the Moose led the score 2-1 and the shot count 19-15.
The teams played the first seven minutes of the third period without any real scoring opportunities. With 12 minutes to play in the regulation, the shots were 23-17 for the Moose.
With 6:37 left in regulation Mike Brown came close to giving the Moose a two goal cushion as he stole the puck at the Rochester blue line, broke in on Leighton but put it just over the crossbar.
Manitoba did well to kill off a Bieksa interference penalty at 14:03 in the third as they limited Rochester to just one shot on net.
Rochester pulled Michael Leighton with just over a minute to play in regualtion for the extra skater. With 30 seconds left to play, Rochester had a goal disallowed as a point shot was tipped in with a high stick. The Moose held off the charge in the remaining seconds to preserve the win.
