Cleveland took the first penalty of the game at the 2:59 mark of the first period as Cleveland was charged with a too many men bench minor. Manitoba controlled the puck well on the powerplay but nothing that developed into a scoring opportunity. The penalty expired with the Moose recording one shot.

With seven minutes played in the first the Barons had yet to record a shot with the Moose leading the shot total 5-0.

Josh Hennessy had a great chance in front of Centomo as he received a pass, spun around in front, and flipped it just wide of the right post with the backhand.

At 9:32 the Moose took their second powerplay of the game after Cleveland's Bernier got his stick up on Kevin Bieksa. Cleveland got lucky as they tried to change penalty killers, as Josh Green had to wait at the line for his team to get onside. Josh Green was able to walk in and rip a shot on Holden that he took in the chest and held. The penalty to Bernier expired with the game remaining scoreless.

Centomo had to be quick on his first save, more than 15 minutes into the first period, as Plihal ripped a shot that Centomo turned away with his left pad.

Prestin Ryan took the second Moose penalty of the game with just under a minute left in the first. Cleveland put on heavy pressure with Centomo making a couple nice saves. The Barons powerplay was nullified with three tenths of a second left in the first as Rypien was hooked down by Doug Murray.

At the end of a scorelss first, Manitoba led the shot count 10-4.

Cleveland just about took a one goal lead with three minutes gone in second after a scramble in front, the puck trickled through the Moose crease just out of reach of Cavanagh who couldn't get a stick on the puck.

With 11:36 to play in the second the Moose took a 1-0 lead as Rick Rypien scored as he streaked down the right wing and fired a knuckler of a slap shot that fooled Holden.

Manitoba took a 5 on 3 advantage after Carkner was called for hooking and Cleveland was given a delay of game penalty. Bieksa had a good rip from the point that forced Holden into a nice pad save. That was the only real scoring opportunity as Cleveland killed off their fourth and fifth Moose powerplays of the game.

At 18:07 of the second Cleveland was given another delay of game penalty for late line changes, after given a warning minutes earlier by referee Dean Morton.

The second expired with the Moose still on the powerplay for seven seconds. Manitoba led the game 1-0 and the shots 19 to 11.

Cleveland pressured Manitoba to start the third period as they peppered Centomo with four quick shots. Kaspar just missed the right corner of the net as he ripped a slapshot from the slot.

James DeMone took the first penalty of the third period putting Cleveland on their third powerplay of the game as DeMone was gated for boarding. With some great penalty killing by Mike Brown the Moose were able to kill the DeMone penalty with ease.

With 8:10 to play in the third the Moose continued to lead the shot count 22-14. Doug Murray was given a holding penalty with just under seven minutes to play in regulation as Jesse Schultz broke in one on one and Murray took him to the ground. The Moose could not get anything going on the powerplay as they failed to register a shot.

Minutes later the Moose got their second of the game as Mike Keane chased down a puck in the Baron's zone to keep the play alive. Fortunus threw the puck on net and Mike Brown gathered the rebound and put it through Jamie Holden's legs.

Cleveland pulled Holden for the extra attacker, but it was Jaffray who stole the puck with just over 30 seconds to play and fed it to Schultz who iced the game with the empty net.
