Cleveland came out hard pressing in the Moose zone. James DeMone dropped his stick, leaving him to play defence with only his hands. As three players screened Flaherty in front Matt Carkner ripped a shot from the point that scored top shelf and put the Barons up 1-0.

Minutes later, the Barons again controlled the puck in the Moose zone. A harmless looking shot took a unlucky rebound off of Flaherty and winger Pat Rissmiller popped it into a wide open Moose goal for a 2-0 Barons lead.

Nathan Smith had a great opportunity to get one back as he took a nice pass at centre and had quick two on one chance with Jason Jaffray. Nathan Smith kept and fired it up and just over the crossbar.

The Moose went on their first powerplay after Mike Brown was hauled down in fron and Brad Staubitz was sent off for interference. The Moose controlled the play in the Barons zone during the first minute of the powerplay, but only managed a couple of half-decent shots on goal. The second half of the powerplay was spent chasing the puck after Cleveland continued to throw it down the ice.

With 5:30 to play in the period the score remained 2-0 and the shots 10-7 in favor of Manitoba.

With 4.2 seconds to play and the Moose just looking to get off the ice after a rough first period. Baron's centre Josh Hennessy walked out from behind the left side of the net and shelved the puck on the backhand. At the end of the first period the Moose were down 3-0 and the shots were tied at 11.

The Moose put McVicar in net to start the second and it seemed to spark the Moose. The Moose pressured Cleveland in their zone, passing the puck neatly back to Craig Darby, who fired a quick wrist shot hitting Baron's defencemen Garrett Stafford and going in.

Jason Doig put the Baron's on their fourth powerplay of the game after he dove and slid back-first, and took out the legs of a Cleveland player. The Moose played great on the penalty kill not allowing Cleveland to get anything set up, not letting the Barons record a shot.

Minutes later the Moose notched closer on the powerplay with a Burrows blast from the point, tipped in by Green. This put the Moose only one goal behing the Barons, 3-2. McVicar kept the game close late in the second period as Cleveland's Grant Stevenson streaked down the right wing and forced McVicar into a beauty glove save.

Manitoba drew even as a Baron's penalty had just expired. Brett Skinner took a harmless looking shot from the point that again, hit defencemen Garrett Stafford and ricochet past Jamie Holden.

Early in the third, Cleveland took a 4-3 lead on the powerplay as Tim Conboy took a feed at the point, walked in, and snapped a quick shot over the right shoulder of Rob McVicar.

Minutes later the Moose once again drew even. Jason Jaffray fought off a defencemen and tried to stuff the puck past Holden. Jaffray took two whacks at the loose puck before it floated threw the crease and allowed Sven Butenschon to put it into an empty net.

The Moose were given a great chance to find a game winner as they went on the powerplay after a Matt Carkner interference penalty. With the puck in the Baron's zone, Cleveland defenceman Tim Conboy caught a floating puck and threw it the length of the ice. He was given a minor for delay of game and Manitoba went on a 5 on 3 powerplay. The Moose passed the puck with perfection in the Cleveland zone as they worked it around to Alexandre Burrows at the point, who rifled home his second of the game.

Burrows' goal proved to be the winner as Cleveland pulled their goalie late but couldn't equalize. The game finished 5-4 with the shots 35-25 in favor of the Moose.
