The Wolves tested McVicar right off the start as Derek MacKenzie fired a quick shot on net and then crashed into the net. MacKenzie needed help off of the ice
as he suffered a leg injury on the play.
Nathan Smith took a hooking minor with 1:20 gone in the first, giving him a team leading 29 penalty minutes on the year. Jimmy Roy had a great chance shorthanded, as he tipped the puck
past the Chicago defenceman but could only get a quick shot off as he was hauled down. No call.
Halfway through the first Smith took another minor penalty, this time for holding. Chicago passed the puck well in the Moose zone, the pass came to Travis Roche who fanned on
the shot giving Josh Green a chance for a breakaway. Roche could do nothing but haul down Green who would have had a clear chance on the Wolves' goal. This ended Chicago's powerplay opportunity.
The Moose went up 1-0 nothing on the powerplay when James DeMone took a quick shot that was stopped, the rebound rolled right through the goal area and Jozef Balej was able to
poke it home.
McVicar came up huge as Travis Roche snuck in from the point and fired a shot to the low left corner, McVicar made a great right-pad save.
The first period ended with the score remaining 1-0 and the shots 12-7 in favor of Chicago.
The Wolves came out hungry with a flurry of shots that McVicar turned away. Chicago's Brian Maloney took a roughing penalty after he hauled down Butenschon.
The Moose chose to go with five forwards on this powerplay, obviously giving their overworked defencemen a rest. The Moose couldn't get much going on the PP and it was Chicago's
Colin Stuart who had a great chance shorthanded that was stopped by McVicar.
The Wolves went on a 5-3 advantage for 16 seconds after Green and DeMone were sent off for minor penalties. The Moose handled this penalty kill well, not giving Chicago
any decent scoring opportunities.
The second period seemed to have a constant stream of penalties with six penalties in just over eight minutes played.
Note: Wolves captain Derek MacKenzie was said to have a broken ankle after crashing into the goal on the first shift of the game.
McVicar made a great save as Jim Slater made a nice backhand pass to Ramzi Abid for a quick shot in which McVicar made his best save of the night.
Wolves player Kevin Doell had to be attended to after he was caught by a Nathan Smith high-stick. He drew blood and Nathan Smith was assessed a five minute major.
With a minute to play in the second, Brad Larsen took a nice feed from Travis Roche and fired it fast the out-stretched skate of Rob McVicar to tie the game at one.
Josh Green put the Moose up 2-1 early in the third, on a quick shot from the top of the left face off circle, which went right up over the blocker of Naumenko.
Minutes later Rick Rypien got his second goal of the season and the third for the Moose in this game, as Burrows intercepted the puck along the boards and passed the puck to
Rypien all alone in front. Rypien made no mistake putting it past the left skate of Naumenko.
Manitoba went on their seventh powerplay of the game with 6:44 gone, after Karl Stewart was sent off for a hold on McIver. Nathan Smith later nullified this penalty
by taking an interference call and giving him his fourth penalty of the game.
Things got slightly heated after a save and cover by McVicar, as Jimmy Roy took exception to Scott Barney hacking away at the frozen puck and invited him to tangle. Barney wanted
nothing to do with it however.
The Moose had a goal waived off, after a shot from the face off was knocked down by a high-stick.
With the goalie pulled late in the game, Scott Barney had a great chance to score as he had a wide open net, but put it into the stands instead. The game ended 3-1 with the shots
26-20 in favor of the Wolves.
