Note: Curtis McElhinney was given the start in net for the Knights as Brent Krahn, who was believed to be getting the start, was out with flu-like symptoms.

The Moose got into penalty trouble right off the hop as they went down two men after Burrows and Butenschon took early minors. As the first penalty was expiring Rick Rypien tried to carry the puck out of the Moose zone himself. He was checked as the Knights MacDonald picked up the puck and took a quick shot on Flaherty who made the first save but couldn't get to the rebound as defencemen Mark Giordano whacked it home.

The Moose were able to pull even on their first powerplay of the game when Nathan Smith was able to shelf home a rebound after Brandon Nolan fired a quick shot. The goal came at 4:14 of the first.

Burrows almost put the Moose up one as he streaked down the left wing and put a nice wrist shot just wide after having Omaha goalie Curtis McElhinney beat.

Minutes later after the Moose took the lead, as shorthanded, Rick Rypien sole the puck from an Omaha defender and snapped a quick shot past McElhinney.

With about six minutes to play the Moose took their fourth penalty of the period as Tomas Mojzis was sent off for cross-checking. Late in the powerplay the Knights controlled the Moose zone but could only muster a couple of quick shots in which Flaherty turned away with ease.

Things heated up after Mark Giordano gave Jozef Balej a big open ice hit. Both Jimmy Roy and Rick Rypien had words with Giordano and as the whistle blew and the puck dropped it was Rypien and Giordano who dropped the gloves. Both delivered a few good shots and I wouldn't be alone calling this one a draw.

The second started off with a big check by Carsen Germyn of the Knights on Nathan Smith. Smith took major offence to this and the fireworks started. Smith immediately got up and he and Germyn went at it. They exchanged blows for a half a minute until officials broke it up. Both were assesed five minute fighting penalties, and each drew seperate two minute minors, Smith for instigating and Germyn for clipping.

Note: Tomas Mojzis was absent from the Moose bench at the start of the second period after taking a puck in the facial area late in the first.

The Moose went on their third powerplay at 7:00 in the second, as Burrows broke in strong and caught Omaha's Brandon Prust flat-footed, who could do nothing but hook Burrows to stop him. The Moose worked the powerplay well controlling the puck for the majority of the two minutes. They managed a half dozen good shots on goal but could not capitalize on the opportunity.

With 6:52 left to play in the second, Omaha got their fifth powerplay after Prestin Ryan was sent off for hooking. The best chance to tie came when Zenith Komarniski took a quick shot at the point which was deflected just wide, almost beating Flaherty.

The second period closed out with the Knight's Cam Severson almost putting home an equalizer as he snuck straight up the middle and fired off a nice hard wrist shot just wide to the right.

The first good scoring chance of the third came for the Moose as Josh Green took the puck from behind the net and attempted to wrap the puck around and in. Omaha's McElhinney made his best save of the night diving across with the glove.

Minutes later, a great chance came at the other end, as Cam Severson flipped a shot on net which Flaherty had a hard time with, but covered up for a face-off.

With just over ten minutes to play, the Moose had a great chance to go up two as Jozef Balej stole the puck at Omaha's blue line, streaked in on goal, but was tugged down by Giordano of the Knights. The score remained 2-1 but Giordano was given two minutes for holding.

With 4:28 to play the Knights went on the powerplay after Rick Rypien was given a roughing penalty. Omaha pressed hard on the PP looking for a goal to force extra time. However, it was Jimmy Roy who almost iced it shorthanded, as he stole the puck in the Knight's zone, and ripped a shot off the left post.

With the goalie pulled, Omaha pressed and forced Jozef Balej into a hooking penalty. Playing 6 on 4 the Moose held on for dear life, scrmabling around to block shots and preserve the win. Time expired with the final score Moose: 2, Knights: 1.
