The Moose came out hard with an early chance as Burrows recieved a pass in the high slot but was slashed with an early penalty coming to Peoria. However two great chances came shorthanded for Peoria as the Moose gave up the puck at the blue line but Flaherty made two nice saves. The Moose could only muster a few weak shots as the penalty expired.

Minutes later Jimmy Roy took a holding the stick penalty and gave Peoria a powerplay. The Moose penalty killers played the penalty well not allowing the Rivermen develop anything who could only manage one shot.

The play went back and forth midway through the first period with neither team developing any real scoring opporunities.

At 11:29 of the first period, Doug Lynch of Peoria took a tripping penalty and Hemingway took a hooking penalty to put the Moose on their second and third powerplay and on a 5-3. Jesse Schultz received a pass from Mojzis and took it on a one-timer but Sanford made the save. The Moose had a half a dozen terrific chances to go up one but Sanford seemed to just get there on every opportunity.

Peoria went up 1-0 on the powerplay as Colin Hemingway capitalized on a nice feed as he one-timed it in from the left side.

A first period filled with penalties concluded with a fight between Morgan of Peoria and Burrows of the Moose. Morgan got a few nice shots and got the better of Burrows in that tilt. Both were assesed five minute penalties.

The Moose started the second period off by turning it over in their zone to Peoria's Evans, who ripped a quick point blank shot that Flaherty held for a faceoff.

The Moose went on their sixth powerplay of the game when Rocky Thompson took a charging call after leaving his feet hitting Rick Rypien. Manitoba's couldn't manage a single shot on net as the Peoria penalty killers did their job well.

A minute after the penalty expired the Moose broke out on a 3 on 1 as Green made a nice pass to Schultz who made no mistake putting it home over as Sanford slid across the face of the goal.

After another 3 penalties the Moose were on a four on three advantage when Skinner came in and took a quick shot on net in which Sanford saved but Darby was able to scoop up the rebound and slide it in putting the Moose up 2-1.

Minutes later the Moose struck again when Burrows slid a pass over to Nathan Smith who hit it routinely into the left corner to put the Moose up 3-1.

At 12:27 in the second Peoria went on their second power play of the second period after Prestin Ryan was assesed a two minute minor for holding. Peter Sejna took a great pass from Linglet behind the net and flipped the puck up and over Flaherty to make the score 3-2 Moose.

Things again got rough again as Doug Lynch of the Rivermen and Marc Andre Bernier went at it. Lynch oversized and out-muscled Bernier delivering a flurry of shots before linesmen were able to break it up.

At 19:00 of the second the rough play continued Peoria's Brendan Buckley took a cheap shot at Jesse Schultz. Buckley was dealt a minor roughing penalty, as was Josh Green. Green was also charged with a interference penalty giving the Rivermen a man advantage. Again Peter Sejna was able to capitalize on a loose puck at the left side of the net and whacked home the tying goal.

The period concluded with another fight as Jimmy Roy locked up with DiSalvatore with Roy pulling him to the ground while delivering a few good shots. Both were charged with five minute majors.

Peoria started the third period on the powerplay after Brandon Nolan was charged with a slashing penalty right at the end of the second period. The Rivermen controlled the zone well with a few quick passes turning into a chance for Mottau at the side of the net. Flaherty was able to make three quick saves and freeze the puck for a faceoff. The penalty expired with no damage done.

After the first two periods were filled with stoppages from penalties and goals the third period seemed to sail by with both teams exchanging weak shots on goal with no real scoring opportunities.

Josh Green had a great opportunity with about ten minutes to play when he snuck out from behind the net and tried to wrap around the puck into the bottom right corner. Curtis Sanford was able to sneak across and make a nice toe save.

With 7:56 to play the Moose were put on a five minute powerplay after Peoria's D.J King was sentenced to a 5 minute major cross checking penalty and a game misconduct. The Moose looked to capitalize as they controlled the puck in the Rivermen zone, Mojzis had a wide open net after a quick rebound came off Sanford but could not get a handle on the puck to put it past the sprawling keeper. Moments later Peoria's Troy Riddle stole the puck from Josh Green and broke in on the net and pciked out the top corner to put the Rivermen up 4-3.

With Flaherty out of the net the Moose tried their best to get an equalizer but it wasn't meant to be however as the Moose lose their opening game 4-3.
