Ryan Kesler picked up where he left off in the Cleveland series, creating scoring chances. He blasted a shot from the slot, forcing Moss to kick out a pad to turn the puck away. On the same shift, Kesler broke into the Edmonton zone skating around the Road Runners defender and cut in front of the net. However, his backhander missed the mark.

A couple of minutes later, Flaherty made a big stop on a scramble in front of the net off Brad Winchester.

The Moose had the game's first powerplay after Rocky Thompson was sent off for roughing. On a mad scramble in front of the net during which Moss was forced to make several stops in succession, Goren managed to pick up the puck at the side of the net and roof it in.

Mike Bishai came right back for Edmonton with a scoring chance after the Moose goal but Flaherty slid across and stacked the pads to make a great save.

Less than a minute after Flaherty's big stop, the Road Runners were able to dent the scoreboard. Jeff Woywitka blasted a shot from the blueline that went through the legs of a screened Flaherty, tying the game at 1-1.

After one, the score was 1-1 with Manitoba holding a 16-12 edge in shots.

Edmonton went ahead with Wade Brookbank in the penalty box. Raffi Torres stood right in front of the net and was able to pick up a rebound after Flaherty stopped a blast from the point.

Flaherty came up big less than a minute later, making a sprawling save off Kyle Brodziak. Brodziak took a cross-ice pass from McAslan and shot it high but the Moose netminder kicked his pads up in the air to block it.

Brandon Nolan then rushed down the ice for the Moose and fired it glove side on Moss, who nabbed the puck out of the air.

The Moose continued on the attack. Jeff Heerema scored to tie the game at 2-2 with Peter Sarno and Jason King getting assists on the play. However, Edmonton would regain the lead before the end of the period on a goal by Tony Salmelainen.

After two periods, Manitoba continued to hold the shot advantage at 27-23 but Edmonton had a one-goal lead.

At the start of the third, Alex Auld came out to replace Flaherty in goal. Auld was tested early by Toby Petersen and turned the shot away.

Jesse Schultz had a great chance to tie the game early in the final frame. During a goalmouth scramble with Moss down and out, he had the puck on his stick but missed the net.

As the minutes in the third period ticked down, the Moose kept pressing for the tying goal but Moss was stellar in the third. Manitoba outshot Edmonton 9-4 in the final frame but were unable to score.
